As of press time, several local governments and other parties have
mounted class action suits and civil complaints for fraudulent business
practices against Grinnell and its parent, Tyco, charging a practice of
selling defective pipe. Damages could reach many millions. LASER has
long suspected the precise quality of Tyco/Grinnell's parts, given the
many court suits we have found charging that Tyco/Grinnell's piping and
valves have failed, causing water damage. Now, in a landmark civil
action, the taxpayers of the L.A. area charge that Grinnell/Tyco ripped
them off by selling their public agency hundreds of thousands of
substandard valves that were short on copper and long on toxic lead.
