C & R Plumbing & Heating in hot water over leaking pipes, faulty construction

RECORDS ALSO REVEAL HISTORY OF DANGEROUS WORK SITES, WAGE AND LABOR VIOLATIONS

C& R Plumbing and Heating, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, has become an important mechanical contractor in the Inland Empire from Spokane, WA, to Boise, ID.

C&R, run by Dan and Kent Rude, often has as many as one hundred
plumbers and  pipefitters laboring on a variety of projects. C & R has done  considerable work for state and local public agencies including prisons, schools, and water treatment plants. But close scrutiny of C & R's record reveals a troubling litany of leaking pipes, faulty  construction,  dangerous work sites, and wage and labor violations. A major general contractor has stated in writing that C & R is "not qualified."

A C& R MANAGER'S FELONY DRUG CONVICTION. HE WAS ALSO ACCUSED OF DRUNK DRIVING, AND A PRIOR DRUG OFFENSE

Don K. (Kent) Rude, a construction manager for C& R, was convicted of a felony drug offense: Delivery of a Controlled Substance, in Coeur d'Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho. The conviction,

took place in 1993, when Rude was 33 years old. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail, and five years probation. According to Court records and a published account, two years of his determinate sentence was suspended, as was another three years indeterminate sentence. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $6,218, and $1,198 in restitution for two victims.

Court records also show that Rude had a prior arrest for drugs when he was 24 years old. The deposition of that case is not known. He also had prior arrests publicize these aspects of its job for driving while intoxicated, for  operating a motor vehicle without insurance, for drag racing for failure to appear, and multiple instances of driving with a suspended license. Records did not indicate a final deposition of those cases.

Our society, and especially the construction industry, has proclaimed a zero tolerance for drug use. Should public agencies, especially schools and prisons, patronize a company when it means that a convicted drug felon will be on the job site?

The information presented in this brochure should be of interest to potential customers of C &R. The Contractor's Critic presents this data here because it
is doubtful that C & R would ever publicize these aspects of its job history voluntarily.
