BUCKEYE FACED MORE CHARGES OF WAGE VIOLATIONS
The Ohio Department of Commerce, Division of Labor and Worker Safety
uncovered additional charges of recent wage violations by Buckeye Electric.
In an April 18, 2001 letter, the State of Ohio told Buckeye Electric that
the company had again violated wage laws, this time at the New Justice
Center job. The State of Ohio required Buckeye Electric to pay back wages
and penalties totaling $18,461 to six workers.
Just one month later, in a May 16, 2001 letter, the Ohio Institute for
Fair Contracting, Central Ohio chapter, charged that Buckeye Electric had
violated wage laws during its construction work at Rhodes Hall and at a
stadium, both at Ohio State University. As of the date of this letter, no
violations had yet been issued against Buckeye.
The Institute also stated that Buckeye had not paid the required wages at
the Forensic Lab Facility job in London, Ohio. The Department of Commerce
Bureau of Wage and Hours rendered a determination against Buckeye Electric
in the amount of $2,692 regarding that violation.
