Safety Problems AARON’S SAFETY PROBLEMS When a contractor’s employee is injured on your property, it could be your problem. An injured worker with a lawyer may not be able to sue the contractor who employed him because of the worker comp laws, but he can sue you. The causes for action include failing to properly supervise your contractor and failing to provide a safe workplace. Your best defense is to hire a safe contractor. That is why a contractor’s job safety compliance record is so important. In April, 1998, Michigan OSHA cited Aaron on a Canton, Michigan job site for a serious violation of protective equipment rules, and a serious violation of aerial platform regulations, for a total of $450 in proposed fines. Aaron was also inspected in November 1998 on a Post Office job in Trenton, Michigan. OSHA found violations of two electrical rules, and an aerial platform rule. SAFETY PROBLEMS AT QUALITY AIR In March, 1998 Michigan OSHA issued a violation notice against Quality Air for a serious violation of fall protection rules at a retail store job site in Moline, Michigan, and proposed a fine of $500. In March, 1997, Michigan OSHA cited Quality Air at a Grand Valley University job for violating fall protection rules, ladder rules, accident prevention, and hazardous chemical data sheet rules, and proposed a $150 fine.
